Why this one

A grade calculator that shows its working

Most grade tools hand back one number and hide the arithmetic. This one shows every category’s contribution and every score you could still reach.

Three calculators, one page

Weighted class grade, the score you need on a final, and a straight points-to-percentage conversion all live in the same panel, so you are never sent to a second URL mid-panic.

Every contribution itemised

See exactly how many percentage points each category adds to your final mark. That is how you find out whether the homework you skipped actually mattered.

Realistic, not just possible

The needed-score table flags targets that require above 100 percent, so you know immediately which grades are still live and which are already gone.

Letters and GPA points together

Switch between a plain A–F scale and a plus/minus scale, and see the GPA value of the result at the same time instead of looking it up separately.

Add as many categories as you have

Homework, quizzes, labs, participation, midterm, final — add rows until the weights add up. Partial weights are handled too, for grades calculated mid-semester.

Private and instant

Everything runs in your browser. No account, no upload, no advert blocks between you and the answer, and it works on a phone in a lecture hall with one bar of signal.

How to use it

How to calculate your grade in four steps

A weighted grade is the sum of each category score multiplied by its weight, divided by the total weight entered. The calculator handles the arithmetic and the letter conversion.

Pick the right mode

Use Class grade when you have several weighted categories, Final exam needed when you know your current grade and want a target, and Test score for a single assignment marked out of points.

Copy the weights off your syllabus

Homework 20, quizzes 15, midterm 25, final 40 — whatever your course uses. Weights do not have to total 100; if only part of the term has been graded, the calculator normalises what you entered.

Enter the scores you already have

Use the percentage for each category, not raw points. If a category is unfinished, leave it out and it becomes remaining weight instead.

Read the needed-score table

Open What you need to see the mark required on the remaining work for each letter grade, with impossible targets flagged, then plan revision around the ones still in reach.

Benefits

Why running the numbers beats guessing

Grade anxiety is usually uncertainty wearing a costume. Five minutes with the real weights tends to shrink it.

You study where the weight isA 5 percent quiz category and a 40 percent final do not deserve equal revision time. Seeing the contribution column makes that obvious in seconds.

You know if a grade is still reachableNeeding 104 percent on the final is useful information, not a disaster — it tells you to talk to the instructor about extra credit now rather than after results day.

You catch gradebook errors earlyCalculating your own grade and comparing it with the portal is the simplest way to spot a missing submission or a mistyped score while it can still be fixed.

You protect your GPA deliberatelyKnowing that an 89.4 rounds to a B+ rather than an A− changes how you spend the last week of term, and one letter grade in one course can move a semester GPA more than most students expect.

You replace dread with a planA number with a breakdown attached is something you can act on. A vague sense that things are going badly is not.

FAQ

Grade calculator questions, answered

The arithmetic behind the number, and the edge cases syllabuses rarely explain.

How do I calculate my grade with weighted categories?

Multiply each category score by its weight, add the results, then divide by the total weight you counted. If homework is 92 percent at a weight of 20, quizzes are 85 at 15 and the midterm is 78 at 25, that is 1,840 plus 1,275 plus 1,950, which is 5,065, divided by 60. Your grade so far is 84.4 percent.

What grade do I need on my final exam?

Subtract the part of the grade already locked in from your target, then divide by the final’s weight. With an 84 percent current grade, a final worth 25 percent and a 90 percent target, you need (90 − 84 × 0.75) ÷ 0.25, which is 108 percent. Switch to the Final exam needed mode and the calculator flags targets like that as out of reach.

What is 43 out of 50 as a grade?

Divide 43 by 50 and multiply by 100, which gives 86 percent — a B on both the plain and the plus/minus scale. The Test score mode does this for any points total and also shows how many points you would have needed for the next letter up.

Do the weights have to add up to 100 percent?

No. Mid-semester, only part of the course has been graded, so the calculator divides by the weight you actually entered rather than assuming 100. Anything left over is shown as remaining weight, and the needed-score table tells you what to average across it.

How do I convert a percentage to a letter grade?

On the standard American scale, 90 and above is an A, 80s are a B, 70s a C, 60s a D and anything below 60 is an F. A plus/minus scale splits each band into three, so 90 to 92 is an A minus, 93 to 96 an A and 97 or above an A plus. Both scales are built into the calculator.

Does 89.5 percent round up to an A?

That depends entirely on the instructor, and it is worth asking before the last week of term. Some gradebooks round to the nearest whole number, which would make 89.5 an A minus, while others truncate, leaving it a B plus. This calculator does not round in your favour, so treat the result as the conservative version.

What happens to my grade if I fail the final?

Multiply your current grade by the share of the course already graded, then add the final’s weight multiplied by the score you expect. A student sitting at 84 percent with a final worth 25 percent who scores 40 finishes at 73 percent. The what-if table shows the full range from 0 to 100 so nothing comes as a surprise.

How is a class grade different from GPA?

A class grade is a percentage for one course. GPA converts each course’s letter grade into points, usually on a four-point scale, and averages them across courses weighted by credit hours. Work out each class grade here first, then feed the letters into a GPA calculator.

Can I use this for high school and university?

Yes. Weighted grading works the same way at both levels, and in most countries that use percentage marking. Only the letter boundaries differ, so set the scale to match your syllabus and read the percentage rather than the letter if your institution uses a different system.

Find out where you actually stand

Enter your weights once, see every category’s contribution, and know exactly what the final exam has to deliver — before the week it happens.

Grading scales vary between institutions and sometimes between departments. The percentage boundaries and GPA values used here follow the most common American convention; always check your syllabus before treating a result as final. This calculator does not round in your favour and does not account for extra credit, dropped-lowest-score policies or attendance penalties unless you enter them as a category.
