Why this tool

More Than a Basic Increment Calculator

Most hike calculators only add a percentage. This one tells you what the raise is really worth and where your salary is heading.

Three ways to calculate

Apply a hike, find the hike percentage between two salaries, or see how long it takes to reach a target.

Yearly and monthly view

Enter annual CTC or monthly pay. The results show both, so you can compare offers either way.

Real hike after inflation

See how much of your raise is real growth and how much just keeps up with rising prices.

Future salary projection

An interactive chart and table project your pay for up to 30 years at your chosen yearly hike.

Target salary planner

Set a salary goal and find out how many years it takes, or what hike you need to get there sooner.

Private and instant

Your salary never leaves your device. There is no sign-up and nothing is stored.

The formula

How to Calculate Salary Hike Percentage

To find the hike percentage, subtract your old salary from the new one. Then divide the difference by the old salary and multiply by 100.

To work out a new salary instead, multiply your current salary by one plus the hike rate. For example, a 12% hike means multiplying by 1.12.

Worked example

Suppose your current CTC is ₹8,00,000 and you get a 12% hike. Your new CTC is ₹8,00,000 × 1.12 = ₹8,96,000. That is ₹96,000 more a year, or ₹8,000 more a month.

Real hike after inflation

If prices rise 5% in the same year, your real hike is (1.12 ÷ 1.05 − 1) × 100, which is about 6.67%. In other words, only part of the raise improves your buying power.

Salary hike formulas

Hike % = (New − Old) ÷ Old × 100

  • New salary: Old × (1 + Hike % ÷ 100)
  • Increase: New − Old
  • Monthly salary: Annual ÷ 12
  • Real hike: [(1 + hike) ÷ (1 + inflation) − 1] × 100
  • Years to target: log(Target ÷ Current) ÷ log(1 + hike)

CTC vs in-hand

Does a Hike on CTC Raise Your In-Hand Salary Equally?

Not always. Your CTC includes parts you do not receive every month, such as employer PF, gratuity, insurance and variable pay. Your in-hand salary is what remains after tax and deductions.

So a 12% hike on CTC can raise take-home pay by less than 12%. That happens when part of the hike goes into variable pay, or when higher income moves you into a higher tax slab.

Before you accept a raise or an offer, ask for the new salary breakup. Then compare the fixed pay, not only the total CTC.

Tips

How to Negotiate a Better Hike

Start with data. Know the pay range for your role, city and experience, and list the results you delivered this year.

Next, talk in numbers. Use the calculator to show what your ask means per month and after inflation, which keeps the discussion concrete.

Tip: if your hike is below inflation, your real pay has fallen. That is a fair point to raise in your review.

FAQ

Salary Hike Calculator FAQs

Quick answers to common questions about hikes, increments and appraisals.

How do I calculate my salary hike percentage?

Subtract your old salary from your new salary, divide the result by the old salary and multiply by 100. For example, going from ₹8,00,000 to ₹9,20,000 is (1,20,000 ÷ 8,00,000) × 100 = a 15% hike.

How do I calculate my new salary after a hike?

Multiply your current salary by one plus the hike rate. A 12% hike on ₹8,00,000 gives ₹8,00,000 × 1.12 = ₹8,96,000 a year, or about ₹74,667 a month.

What is a good salary hike?

A good hike is one that clearly beats inflation, so your buying power grows. Annual appraisal hikes are usually smaller than hikes from a job switch. Compare your raise with inflation and with pay for similar roles.

What is a real salary hike?

A real hike is your raise after adjusting for inflation. It equals (1 + hike) ÷ (1 + inflation) − 1. A 12% hike with 5% inflation is a real hike of about 6.67%.

Is the hike calculated on CTC or in-hand salary?

Most companies state hikes on CTC or fixed pay. Your in-hand salary may rise by a smaller percentage because of tax, PF and variable pay. Ask for the revised salary breakup to see the real change.

How many years will it take to double my salary?

At a steady 10% yearly hike, salary doubles in a little over 7 years. At 15% it takes about 5 years. Choose Reach a target in the calculator and enter double your salary to check any rate.

Can I use monthly salary instead of CTC?

Yes. Select Per month and enter your monthly pay. The calculator shows both monthly and yearly figures, so the hike percentage stays the same either way.

How is a salary hike different from an increment?

They usually mean the same thing: an increase in pay. Increment often refers to the yearly raise at appraisal, while hike is also used for the jump when you change jobs.
