Internet speeds are sold in megabits per second (Mbps). Divide by 8 to get megabytes per second. Real downloads are usually slower because of network overhead and server limits.

Estimates assume 4 MB per 12-megapixel photo, about 3.84 MB per 4-minute MP3 song at 128 kbps, 3 GB per hour of HD video and 7 GB per hour of 4K video. Some space is also used by the file system and pre-installed software.
Most converters pick one definition of a gigabyte and hide it. This one shows both, so your answer matches your operating system, your drive box and your internet plan.

Storage makers count in powers of 1,000, while Windows and computer memory count in powers of 1,024. Both call the result a gigabyte, which causes most of the confusion.
| Unit | Decimal (SI) bytes | Binary unit | Binary (IEC) bytes |

Used by hard drive and SSD makers, USB sticks, network speeds and macOS since 2009. Each step is 1,000 times bigger.
1 GB = 1,000 MBUsed for RAM and by Windows, which labels them GB. The official names are kibibyte, mebibyte and gibibyte.
1 GiB = 1,024 MiBA byte is 8 bits. Internet speeds use bits (lowercase b), while file sizes use bytes (uppercase B).
100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/sIn the decimal system used by storage makers and macOS, 1 GB equals 1,000 MB. In the binary system used by Windows and for memory, 1 GB equals 1,024 MB. Strictly speaking, the binary version is called a gibibyte (GiB) containing 1,024 mebibytes (MiB).
Divide the number of megabytes by 1,000 for decimal gigabytes, or by 1,024 for binary gigabytes. For example, 500 MB is 0.5 GB in decimal or about 0.488 GB in binary.
Drive makers define 1 TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. Windows divides that by 1,024 three times and labels the result GB, so it shows about 931 GB. The space is all there; it is simply measured with a larger unit.
A megabyte (MB) is 1,000,000 bytes, while a mebibyte (MiB) is 1,048,576 bytes, or 1,024 × 1,024. The binary units KiB, MiB and GiB were introduced by the IEC to remove the confusion between the two systems.
At 100 Mbps, 1 GB (8,000 megabits) takes about 80 seconds in ideal conditions. At 25 Mbps it takes about 5 minutes 20 seconds. Real downloads are usually a little slower because of network overhead and server limits.
Mbps means megabits per second and MB/s means megabytes per second. Because 1 byte is 8 bits, divide Mbps by 8 to get MB/s. A 100 Mbps connection downloads at up to about 12.5 MB/s.
Assuming about 4 MB per 12-megapixel JPEG photo, 128 GB holds roughly 32,000 photos. Higher-resolution cameras, RAW files and HEIC images change this a lot, and some space is used by the system.
By the official SI and IEC standards, a kilobyte is 1,000 bytes and 1,024 bytes is a kibibyte. In everyday use, many people and Windows still treat a kilobyte as 1,024 bytes, which is why this converter lets you choose.
