Why it's better

Why this online notepad is better

Many notepad sites give you a single text box, upload your words to a server or lose everything when you close the tab. This one keeps your notes private, organized and always saved.

Autosaves privately

Every keystroke is saved to your browser's local storage within half a second. Nothing is uploaded, so your notes stay on your device.

Multiple notes with search

Create as many notes as you need, switch between them from the sidebar and find any note instantly by title or content.

Find and replace with highlights

Every match lights up in your text. Jump between results, match case and replace one or all at once, with full undo.

Download TXT, Markdown or a backup

Save any note as a .txt or .md file, or export every note as one backup file you can restore on another computer.

Focus mode and paper themes

Go full screen with no distractions and write on plain, lined, sepia or dark paper in the font and size you like.

Live counts and reading time

See words, characters, lines and reading time as you write, plus a separate count for any text you select.

How to use the online notepad

No account and no setup. Open the page and start writing; the notepad handles saving for you.

Writing something longer? Check length and readability with the word counter or the reading time calculator.

  1. Start typing

Click inside the page and write. Add a title at the top or leave it blank and the first line becomes the note's name.

  2. Let it save itself

The status bar shows Saved within a moment. Close the tab, and your note is waiting the next time you visit in this browser.

  3. Add and organize notes

Press New for another note. Use the Notes list to switch, search or delete notes; a deleted note can be restored with Undo.

  4. Find, replace and customize

Press Find to highlight and replace words. Open Settings to change the paper, font, size, spell check and word wrap.

  5. Download or back up

Use Download to save a .txt or .md file, or export a backup of all notes. Use Open to load a text file or restore a backup.

Privacy

Where are your notes saved?

Your notes live in your browser's local storage on this device. They are never sent to our server, which makes this notepad private by design, but it also means you are in charge of backups.

  • Notes stay saved after you close the tab or restart your computer.
  • Each browser and device has its own storage, so notes don't appear in other browsers automatically.
  • Private or incognito windows forget notes when you close them.
  • Clearing browsing data or site data for this website deletes your notes.
  • Download a backup regularly, then use Open to restore it on any computer.
  • Browsers typically allow about 5 MB per site, enough for hundreds of thousands of words.

FAQ

Online notepad FAQ

Is this online notepad free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on the number of notes and every feature is free to use.

Where are my notes saved?

Your notes are saved in your browser's local storage on this device. They are never uploaded to our server, and nobody else can read them.

Will I lose my notes if I close the browser?

No. Notes are saved automatically and are still there when you come back in the same browser on the same device.

What happens if I clear my browser data?

Clearing cookies and site data for this website deletes your saved notes. Choose Download, then Backup all notes before clearing so you can restore them later.

Can I open my notes on another device?

Notes don't sync automatically. Download a backup file, move it to the other device and use Open to restore all your notes there.

How do I save a note as a TXT file?

Click Download and choose Text file (.txt). You can also save it as Markdown (.md) for apps like Obsidian, Notion or GitHub.

Does the notepad work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, you can keep writing and your notes keep saving even without an internet connection.

How much text can I store?

Most browsers give each website about 5 MB of storage, which is enough for hundreds of thousands of words across all your notes.

Does it remove formatting from pasted text?

Yes. It is a plain text editor, so anything you paste loses its fonts, colors and links, which is handy for cleaning up copied text.
