Three calculations in one
Add VAT, remove VAT, or find the rate between a net price and a gross price. The third option is rare, yet it is handy for checking receipts.
%Free, instant and private
This free VAT calculator adds VAT to a net price, removes it from a gross price, or finds the rate hidden between two prices. Choose a country to load its standard and reduced rates, or type any rate you like. The working is shown, so you can check every figure.

100.00 × 20% = 20.00 VAT. Then 100.00 + 20.00 = 120.00.

Features
Most VAT tools only handle one country and two sums. This one covers more ground and still gives you the answer as you type.
Add VAT, remove VAT, or find the rate between a net price and a gross price. The third option is rare, yet it is handy for checking receipts.
Pick the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, the UAE, South Africa and more. The standard and reduced rates load as one-tap buttons with the right currency.
Every result comes with the sum behind it. Therefore you can copy the method onto an invoice note or check it by hand.
A small table shows the same amount at every rate for that country. As a result, you can compare the standard and reduced rates at a glance.
Copy the net, the VAT or the gross on its own, or copy the full breakdown in one tap. Then paste it into a quote or your accounts.
All sums run in your browser, so your prices are never uploaded. There is no sign-up and no button to press.
Step by step
The answer updates as you type, so most sums take a few seconds.
Select Add VAT if your price does not include tax. Select Remove VAT if it does. Use Find rate when you know both prices.
Type the price in the box. You can include commas, and the label tells you whether it should be the net or the gross figure.
Choose a country to load its rates, then tap the one you need. Otherwise, type any rate from 0 to 100 percent.
The net, VAT and gross amounts appear on the right with the working below. Finally, copy a single figure or the whole breakdown.
The formulas
Two short formulas cover almost every VAT sum. The examples use the UK standard rate of 20%.
VAT = net × rate ÷ 100
gross = net + VATFor example, 100 net at 20% gives 20 of VAT and a gross price of 120. A quick way is to multiply the net price by 1.2.
net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100)
VAT = gross − netFor example, 120 gross at 20% gives 100 net and 20 of VAT. At 20% the VAT is also exactly one sixth of the gross price.
The common mistake. Taking 20% off a gross price does not remove the VAT. Twenty percent of 120 is 24, but the VAT inside 120 is only 20. Always divide by 1 plus the rate instead.
Quick reference
Use this table when you need a fast answer at the UK standard rate. The same amount gives different results depending on whether it is net or gross.

|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 12.00 | 8.33 | 1.67 |
| 50 | 60.00 | 41.67 | 8.33 |
| 100 | 120.00 | 83.33 | 16.67 |
| 250 | 300.00 | 208.33 | 41.67 |
| 500 | 600.00 | 416.67 | 83.33 |
| 1,000 | 1,200.00 | 833.33 | 166.67 |
