Why it's better

More than just your screen resolution

Most resolution checkers show two numbers and stop. This one explains what they mean and adds the extra details you need for buying monitors, fixing blurry text, testing websites or getting tech support.

Native and scaled resolution

See both the resolution websites use and the real, physical resolution of your panel, worked out from your display scaling.

Refresh rate in Hz

Measure how many frames per second your display is really running at, from 60 Hz laptops to 240 Hz gaming monitors.

Live viewport and breakpoints

Resize your window and watch the viewport size, Tailwind and Bootstrap breakpoints and the screen diagram update instantly.

PPI and physical size

Enter your screen's diagonal to get pixel density, dot pitch and the real width and height of the display in inches and centimeters.

Color and HDR details

Check color depth, wide color gamut (sRGB, Display P3, Rec. 2020), HDR support, dark mode and touch input at a glance.

One-click report

Copy a clean summary of every value to paste into a support ticket, bug report or chat, so nobody has to ask twice.

How to use

How to check your screen resolution

Everything is detected the moment the page loads. Here is how to get the most out of it.

Tip: reset browser zoom to 100% with Ctrl + 0 before checking. Zoom changes the numbers websites see.

  1. Read your resolution

The large number at the top is your screen resolution in CSS pixels. The line below shows your native resolution and scaling.

  2. Check the details

The tiles show viewport, usable screen, pixel ratio, aspect ratio, color, orientation, touch, browser and CSS breakpoint.

  3. Measure refresh rate

The Hz test runs automatically for about two seconds. Keep this tab in focus and press Test again after changing display settings.

  4. Work out PPI

Enter your screen's diagonal in inches or tap a common size to get pixel density, dot pitch and physical dimensions.

  5. Copy the report

Press Copy full report to paste every value into an email, support chat or bug tracker.

Device settings

Check screen resolution on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android

Want to confirm the result or change it? Here is where each system keeps its display settings.

Windows 11 and 10

Right-click the desktop and choose Display settings. Under Scale and layout, Display resolution shows the current setting, and the one marked Recommended is your monitor's native resolution. Scale is the percentage shown here as pixel ratio.

macOS

Open the Apple menu, then System Settings, then Displays to see the resolution your Mac uses. The About This Mac window lists your built-in display and its native resolution.

iPhone and iPad

iOS has no resolution setting. Open this page in Safari to see the viewport and pixel ratio, or check your model's technical specifications for the native resolution.

Android

On many phones, including Samsung Galaxy models, open Settings, Display, Screen resolution. Otherwise, multiply the resolution and pixel ratio shown on this page to get the native resolution.

Scaling explained

Why is my resolution lower than my monitor's?

Operating systems enlarge text and icons on sharp screens so they stay readable. This display scaling makes websites see fewer, larger CSS pixels than your panel physically has.

Multiply the resolution shown by your device pixel ratio to get the native resolution. For example, a Full HD laptop at 125% scaling reports 1536 by 864, and 1536 × 1.25 = 1920.

For web designers

Screen resolution vs viewport size

Screen resolution describes the whole display. The viewport is the part of the browser window a web page can use, and it is what CSS media queries and responsive layouts respond to.

Use the live viewport tile and breakpoint readout above while resizing your browser to see exactly when your layout switches.

  • Design for the viewport, not the screen: media queries use viewport width.
  • Serve sharper images on high pixel ratio screens with srcset and sizes.
  • Test common widths: 360, 390, 414, 768, 1024, 1280, 1440 and 1920 pixels.
  • Remember that browser zoom changes both the pixel ratio and the viewport.
  • On desktop, 100vw includes the scrollbar, so it can be wider than the visible page.
Benefits

When knowing your screen resolution helps

A quick check saves guesswork whenever size, sharpness or compatibility matters.

Buying a monitor or laptop

Compare your current resolution and PPI with the one you are considering to know if the upgrade will look sharper.

Wallpapers and presentations

Pick images that match your native resolution and aspect ratio so they fill the screen without stretching or blur.

Faster tech support

Send the copied report instead of trying to find settings, so support teams can spot scaling or display issues right away.

Gaming and streaming

Confirm your monitor is running at its full refresh rate and set game or OBS output resolution to match your display.

FAQ

Screen resolution FAQ

What is my screen resolution?

The large number at the top of this page is your screen resolution as reported by your browser, in CSS pixels. If your display uses scaling, your native resolution, the real number of pixels on your panel, is shown just below it.

Why does it show a lower resolution than my monitor has?

Your operating system is scaling the display. For example, a 1920 × 1080 laptop at 125% scaling reports 1536 × 864 to websites. Multiply by the device pixel ratio to get the native resolution.

What is the difference between screen resolution and viewport size?

Screen resolution is the whole display. Viewport size is the visible area inside your browser window, without toolbars and tabs, and it changes whenever you resize the window.

What is device pixel ratio?

It is the number of physical pixels used to draw one CSS pixel. A ratio of 2 means each CSS pixel is drawn with a 2 × 2 block of physical pixels, as on Retina and most phone screens.

How accurate is the refresh rate test?

It measures how often your browser draws frames, which usually matches your display's refresh rate. Battery saver, low power mode, background tabs or a busy computer can lower the result, so run the test with this tab in focus.

How do I check my screen resolution on Windows 11?

Right-click the desktop, choose Display settings and look at Display resolution. The value marked Recommended is your monitor's native resolution.

How do I check my screen resolution on a Mac?

Open the Apple menu, then System Settings, then Displays to see the resolution in use. The About This Mac window lists the built-in display with its native resolution.

What is a good screen resolution?

1920 × 1080 (Full HD) is the standard for laptops and monitors up to 24 inches. 2560 × 1440 suits 27-inch monitors, and 4K (3840 × 2160) gives the sharpest image on 27 to 32-inch screens.

Is any of my information stored or sent?

No. Every value is read by your browser and shown only to you. Nothing is saved or uploaded.
