Built for real plans

Why this SSY calculator gives you a truer answer

Most SSY calculators stop at one yearly deposit and a single maturity figure. Real plans are messier, so this one models the rules that actually change your number.

  • Monthly or yearly deposits

Pick monthly and we apply the real rule: a deposit made by the 5th earns interest for that month, and interest is credited once a year.

  • Yearly top-ups

Salaries grow, so deposits usually do too. Add a top-up and each year’s deposit rises, stopping at the ₹1.5 lakh legal limit.

  • The withdrawal at 18

Planning for college fees? Take up to 50% when she turns 18 and see what is left for her at maturity.

  • Goal planner

Start from the corpus you want and get the yearly or monthly deposit that reaches it, rounded to the ₹50 multiple SSY accepts.

  • Every year, in detail

A chart and a full 21-year table show the deposit, interest and balance for each financial year, next to your daughter’s age.

  • Rate what-ifs

The SSY rate is reset every quarter. See your maturity at half a percent lower and higher, so a rate change is never a surprise.

How to use the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana calculator

Five inputs give you a complete maturity plan for your daughter.

  1. Choose yearly or monthly deposits

Yearly assumes you pay in April. Monthly assumes you pay by the 5th of every month.

  2. Enter the amount

Anything from ₹250 to ₹1,50,000 per financial year, in multiples of ₹50. Type it or use the slider.

  3. Add her age and the opening year

Her age decides when the withdrawal at 18 happens. The year gives you the exact maturity date.

  4. Check the rate and top-up

8.2% is filled in for you. Add a yearly top-up if you plan to raise deposits as your income grows.

  5. Read and share the results

See the maturity value, interest, growth chart and full table, then copy the summary to share with family.

The maths

How the SSY maturity amount is calculated

SSY interest is worked out every month on the lowest balance between the 5th and the last day of that month. It is added to the account once a year, at the end of the financial year, so the balance compounds annually.

You deposit for the first 15 years. After that the account keeps earning interest with no new money until it matures 21 years after opening, which is why the last six years add so much.

Why paying before the 5th matters

A deposit that reaches the account after the 5th earns nothing for that month. Paying monthly on the 6th loses a month of interest on every instalment, and that adds up over 15 years. Paying the full year’s amount in April earns the most.

What the calculator does not assume

It does not guess future rate changes. Enter a different rate to test a scenario, or use the what-if line under the results.

The SSY formula

For a deposit made at the start of each financial year:

Closing balance = (Opening balance + Deposit) × (1 + r)

Here r is the yearly rate as a decimal, so 0.082 at 8.2%. Apply it for 15 years with deposits, then 6 years without.

Worked example: ₹1.5 lakh a year

Total deposited (15 years)
₹22,50,000
Balance after 15 years
₹44,75,989
Interest earned
₹49,32,119
Maturity value (21 years)
₹71,82,119
