Mouse Tester: Clicks, Double-Click, Scroll and Polling Rate

Test every mouse button in seconds. This mouse tester checks left, right, middle and side buttons, catches the double-click fault that worn switches cause, tests your scroll wheel, and measures clicks per second and polling rate.

Event log

  • Click in the test area to begin.

Faults are counted when a button registers a new press less than 80 ms after it was released, a common sign of a worn switch.

Why it is different

Why this mouse tester is better

Most mouse tests only show which button you clicked. This one also finds hidden faults and measures speed and responsiveness.

All five buttons

Test left, right, middle and both side buttons, with a live diagram and a click count for each one.

Double-click fault check

A worn switch can turn one click into two. The tester flags any press that follows a release too fast for a human.

CPS test built in

Run a 5, 10 or 30-second click test and see your clicks per second, or watch your live CPS at any time.

Polling rate estimate

Move the mouse quickly to estimate how many times per second it reports its position, from 125 to 8000 Hz.

Scroll wheel test

Count scroll steps up and down plus tilt left and right, so you can spot a wheel that skips or jumps.

Safe to click

Right-click menus, middle-click scrolling and back navigation are blocked inside the test area, so nothing surprising happens.

How to use

How to test your mouse online

A full check takes about a minute.

  1. Click every button

Click inside the test area with the left, right, middle and side buttons. Each one lights up on the diagram.

  2. Check for faults

Click the left button slowly 20 to 30 times. Any double-click fault means the switch may be wearing out.

  3. Test the wheel

Scroll up and down one notch at a time. Each notch should add exactly one step in the right direction.

  4. Measure speed

Move the mouse in fast circles for the polling rate, then run a CPS test to see how fast you click.

Explained

Mouse polling rate and click speed explained

Polling rate is how often your mouse reports to the computer. A higher rate means smoother, lower-latency movement.

Polling rateReport everyTypical mice
125 Hz8 msBasic office mice
500 Hz2 msMany wireless and mid-range mice
1000 Hz1 msMost gaming mice
4000 to 8000 Hz0.25 to 0.125 msHigh-end esports mice

What is a good CPS?

Most people click about 6 to 7 times per second. Fast regular clicking reaches 8 to 10 CPS, while special techniques such as jitter or butterfly clicking can go well above that.

About polling rate results

Browsers can limit how many movement events they report, so the result is an estimate. Chrome and Edge usually give the most accurate reading. Move the mouse fast and steadily for a few seconds.

Double-click problem

Why a mouse double-clicks on its own

Mouse buttons use tiny switches. Over time, worn contacts can bounce and send two clicks for one press, which drags files by accident or closes windows.

  • Confirm it with the fault counter above.
  • Check settings. Make sure the double-click speed in your system is not set too slow.
  • Try compressed air around the button to clear dust.
  • Use the warranty. Many brands replace mice with faulty switches.
Troubleshooting

If a button or the wheel does not work

  • Side buttons missing? Some mice need their software to send back and forward clicks.
  • Wheel skipping? Clean the wheel and check that smooth-scroll mode is off.
  • Wireless mouse? Replace the battery and move the receiver closer.
  • Still failing? Try another USB port or computer to rule out drivers.
FAQ

Mouse tester FAQs

How do I test my mouse online?

Click, double-click, right-click and scroll inside the test area. Each button lights up on the diagram and gets a click count. Buttons that never light up may be faulty or need the maker's software.

How do I check if my mouse double-clicks by itself?

Click the left button slowly and steadily 20 to 30 times. If the Double-click faults counter rises or a click flashes red, the switch is sending two clicks for one press.

How do I test the side buttons?

Press the back and forward buttons inside the test area. They light up on the left side of the diagram. If they do nothing, your mouse may need its companion software to enable them.

How is the polling rate measured?

The tester counts how many position updates the browser receives each second while you move the mouse. It is an estimate, because some browsers limit updates, so move quickly for a few seconds for the best reading.

What is a CPS test?

A CPS test counts how many times you click per second over a set time. Choose 5, 10 or 30 seconds, press Start CPS test and click in the test area as fast as you can.

Why does my scroll wheel jump the wrong way?

Dust or a worn encoder inside the wheel can cause reverse or skipped steps. If the log shows the wrong direction while you scroll one way, clean the wheel or consider a replacement.

Does the mouse tester work with touchpads?

Yes. Taps, two-finger clicks and two-finger scrolling are detected, although polling rate results are only meaningful for a mouse.

Is this mouse tester free?

Yes. It is completely free, needs no download or sign-up, and nothing you do is sent or stored anywhere.
