English and Malayalam

A Malayalam version that reads properly and ranks on its own

A second language is more than a translate button. Done badly, Malayalam text falls back to a clumsy system font, and Google never sees the Malayalam pages at all. Here is how I set it up.

I’m not a Malayalam writer. You or your translator supply the text; I build and check it.

Separate pages for each language

Each language gets its own URLs through a multilingual plugin, with the language tags Google uses to show the right version to the right person.

A font made for Malayalam script

A web font that supports Malayalam, loaded only on Malayalam pages, so headings and conjunct letters render cleanly without slowing the English site.

Layouts that allow for longer words

Malayalam lines often run longer than English. Buttons, menus and cards are checked on small phones so nothing overflows or gets cut off.

No machine translation

Automatic translations read poorly and can hurt trust. I only publish Malayalam text that you have written or approved.
