Full portfolioBuilt for Indian buyers
Shopify’s themes are designed for a global audience. Indian shoppers expect UPI, cash on delivery, pincode checks and order updates on WhatsApp. This is the setup I plan for, choosing apps store by store so you don’t pay for ones you don’t need.
Checkout through a gateway such as Razorpay, Cashfree or PayU, so customers can pay by UPI, cards, net banking and wallets.
COD where it makes sense, with order confirmation before dispatch to cut fake orders and return-to-origin costs.
Rates and delivery estimates by pincode, connected to your courier or a shipping aggregator, so buyers know before they pay.
GST-compliant invoices for every order, and order and delivery updates on WhatsApp, where Indian customers actually read them.
Compressed images, fewer heavy apps and a lean theme, tested on mid-range Android phones on mobile data.
Monthly cost
Most quotes only mention the build. Shopify also has running costs, and in India one of them surprises almost everyone: Shopify Payments isn’t available here, so Shopify adds its own transaction fee on top of your payment gateway’s fee.
| Cost | How it’s charged | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify plan | Monthly or yearly subscription, paid to Shopify | Yearly billing is cheaper. Start on Basic and upgrade when sales justify it. |
| Shopify transaction fee | A percentage of each order when you use a third-party gateway | At the time of writing: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.5% on Advanced. At higher sales, a bigger plan can cost less overall. |
| Payment gateway fee | A percentage of each online payment, paid to the gateway | Charged separately from Shopify’s fee. Compare gateways before you sign up. |
| Apps | Free, or a monthly subscription each | The cost that grows quietly. I only add apps with a clear job and remove the rest. |
| Theme | Free, or a one-time purchase | A good free theme, customised well, is enough for many stores. |
| My development work | One fixed, itemised quote | No monthly fee to me unless you choose ongoing support. |
Shopify changes its plans and fees from time to time. I check the current figures with you before recommending a plan.
Shopify or WooCommerce?
I build on both, so I have no reason to push you either way. The short answer depends on what your website mainly has to do.

FAQ
It depends on the number of products, how much the theme is customised, and which integrations you need. After a short brief I send a fixed, itemised quote. Shopify’s own plan, transaction and app fees are separate; the monthly cost section explains them.
Yours. The store is built on a Shopify account in your business’s name, and I work on it as a collaborator. You keep full ownership of the store, products and customer data.
Yes, I’m based in Chennai and can meet when it helps, for example at kick-off or to walk your team through the admin. Day-to-day work runs over calls and WhatsApp.
Yes. UPI and cards come through an Indian payment gateway, and COD can be enabled with order confirmation to reduce fake orders. I test both with real orders before launch.
Shopify usually suits product-first brands that want hosting handled for them. WooCommerce usually suits businesses that need lots of content, enquiries or custom pricing, without a platform fee. See the comparison.
Yes. Products, collections and content are moved, and old URLs are redirected so Google traffic and shared links keep working. I’ll also tell you if moving isn’t worth it for your store.
Timelines depend mostly on how ready your product photos, descriptions and prices are. I give a timeline with the fixed quote, once I’ve seen your catalogue.
No. Sales depend on your products, pricing and marketing. My job is a fast, trustworthy store where nothing gets in the way of a customer who wants to buy.
