I’m Deepak R, a freelance Shopify and WordPress developer. I help Bangalore founders launch lean Shopify stores and clean up slow, app-heavy ones, without an agency retainer or a twelve-week project plan.
Build for your stage
Bangalore’s Shopify agencies mostly pitch to funded brands: custom themes, headless storefronts, Shopify Plus. Early on, most of that is money you don’t need to spend yet. Here’s how I scope a store by stage.
| Stage | Build now | Can wait |
|---|---|---|
| Launching: your first orders | A well-customised theme, strong product pages, an Indian payment gateway, COD rules, shipping and GST invoices | Custom theme from scratch, loyalty programmes, most paid apps |
| Growing: repeat customers | Reviews, email and WhatsApp flows, bundles or subscriptions if your model fits, a speed and app clean-up | Headless storefront, custom apps |
| Scaling: high volume, big team | Shopify Plus, ERP and warehouse integrations, custom checkout rules, dedicated CRO | This is usually the point to bring in a specialist agency team. I’ll tell you when you’re there. |
Highlighted rows are where I’m most useful: getting a store live properly, then keeping it fast and simple as it grows.
Selected work
Live stores in mattresses, fragrance and nutrition. Open them on your phone and go as far as the checkout.

Two-minute store check
Stores that grew quickly often collect apps, scripts and theme hacks that slow them down and cost money every month. Tick anything that’s true for yours.
One or two ticks is usually a short clean-up. Three or more is worth a proper audit before you spend more on ads.

Measure what each app costs in speed and money, remove what isn’t earning its keep and clean leftover code.
Your designer’s layouts built as reusable Liquid sections your team can rearrange in the theme editor.
Fast pages for launches and ads, built inside your theme so they share your cart and checkout.

New sections, broken layouts and small changes, per task or on a regular basis, without a monthly retainer you don’t use.
Process
I work from Chennai, in the same time zone. Everything runs on calls, WhatsApp and your own Shopify admin.
A call about your products and stage, or a look at your current store and app list.
What to build now and what can wait, with a fixed price and timeline.
I work as a collaborator on your Shopify account, on a duplicate theme so your live store isn’t touched.
Prepaid and COD test orders, mobile checks and speed checks before the theme goes live.

FAQ
An agency makes sense when you need branding, content, performance marketing and development handled by one team, or when you’re on Shopify Plus with complex integrations. A freelancer suits launches, clean-ups and ongoing changes, where talking directly to the developer saves time and money. See what to build at each stage.
Usually not at the start. A good theme with custom sections for your brand and products is faster to launch and easier to maintain. A theme built from scratch makes sense later, when you know exactly what your customers respond to.
I work on a duplicate of your theme through a collaborator account, and publish only after you approve and test orders pass. Your store, data and customers stay in your own Shopify account.
Not for Shopify work, which happens in your admin and on calls anyway. We share a time zone, and you get replies during your working day.
For a defined project I give a fixed, itemised quote after a short brief or store audit. Shopify’s own plan, transaction and app fees are separate. My Chennai Shopify page explains those running costs in India in detail.
Often, yes. I check what each app does, whether the theme can do the same job natively, and what leftover code needs removing, then test everything on a duplicate theme before anything changes on the live store.
Shopify usually suits product-first D2C brands that want hosting handled for them. WooCommerce suits businesses that need lots of content or custom pricing without a platform fee. I build both; see my WordPress developer for Bangalore page for that side.
No. Sales depend on your product, pricing and marketing. My job is a fast store where nothing gets in the way of a customer who wants to buy.
